    Good Luck

Glad to see you worried about nothing. It's best to wait until it was all over to start your worrying. I hope all works out for you in your new career.

    Update*

Got all checked out yesterday with almost perfect stats. Just got back from my first call (house fire) and what a rush. Have SCBA training tomorrow night. 8 month probation and taking FF 1 and FF 2 in January.

Well my regular doctor that has seen me since I was little was able to get me in on tuesday instead of after thanksgiving. He knows my history and knows my asthma doesn't affect me much anymore. With my breathing test scores, the dept. was fine with the fact that I have asthma.

As I stated I did see a specialist. He said he wouldn't really even call it asthma anymore(I was oficially diagnosed when I was 2 years old) When she saw me when I was so sick I was diagnosed with the H1N1 flu. So my coughing was severe at the time. But I have had no asthma related problems since then, and there are other members on the dept. with asthma. I can pass the physical tests no problem, my asthma (or lack of) has never stopped me from doing anything. Just when I get really sick, I cough more than most people I guess.

Also, I don't remember what her card said, there were 3 doctors there, 2 of them were family MD's, and hers was some sort of "nurse paractice" deal. I guess if alls I can do is show up to meetings and training and wait that is what I will do.

So is she a doctor or not?

So she basically screwed me over on that one.
How is documenting her findings "screwing you over?" If you have asthma; you have asthma. That's not her fault.

I am so beyond frustrated right now and I don't know what to do.
See a respiratory specialist. If her diagnosis was correct, you probably shouldn't be a firefighter. (Asthma is a Category A medical condition -- a disqualifier under the NFPA 1582 medical standard.)

she rips it right out from under me just like that.
It isn't her fault. Stop trying to blame someone else for a possible medical condition.

My dad called me and talked to me. He said she looked way too far into it for what they need, and when the regular department doctor gets back (Next Thursday) He will call and talk to him and he will probably sign me off.
"Your dad" should probably stay out of it. No fire department officer should try to influence a potential member's medical evaluation -- a family member's doubly so.

    The non-MD said no

So I am still going to district fire school in the morning and will attend all regular meetings. Just no fire calls until then I guess.

And I am on an old work computer with a bad keyboard, it makes typing harder than it should be, so I make a lot of errors when using this. Sorry.

Basically the MD has said no.

And honestly there isn't much you can do except wait and hope that your regular MD will clear you.

It isn't so much she screwed you. It's more like she was doing her job, and you don't like the results.

By the way, everyone makes some spelling and grammaterical errors now and then, but did you really proofread your post or just hit "send"?

started a topic New, but with a problem.

    New, but with a problem.

Well, I was voted on our local VFD wedensday, my dad is the assistant chief and has been with this dept. for almost 20 years. So I have been down there alot getting things set up for me and ready to go, was planning on going to our district fire school tomorrow morning. Everything was set, just had to go get the physical, which I have had alot of them in the past for random school sports. No body could get me in before saturday except one doctor who I had seen a long time ago. She basically told me she wouldn't sign off on me because I have asthma, which isn't bad asthma, I only have problems come up when I am sick, I smoke cigars often and never had a problem with fumes. Actually I went to a pulminary doctor and he said he wasn't even sure it was considered asthma anymore. and I passed my breathing tests with a 99%. way better than even an average smoker. But this lady doctor today refused to pass me to be on the fire dept. She said I needed to see a doctor with an MD (yeah, she doesn't even have one) To clear me, but she is putting a note in my file to reccomend me NOT to pass for firefighting. So she basically screwed me over on that one. I left in disbelief, and now I am not sure what to do. I tried to get into my regular doctor to see if he would clear me, but he is booked up until thanksgiving, and I don't want to wait that long since FF1 and FF 2 classes will be coming up. She even brought and MD that I haven't seen before in telling him I have "severe asthma" and asked what he would do. He didn't offer much advice since I wasn't his paitent. The only reason she thinks my asthma is "severe" is because I saw her when I Was really really sick and was coughing ALOT at the time..I tried to tell her everyone gets sick, but she said people don't cough like that when they just get sick. I am so beyond frustrated right now and I don't know what to do. I have wanted this as long as I can remember, and now that I am on she rips it right out from under me just like that.
