Retention & Local Gov't

Rentention for volunteer departments is, as we all know, a growing concern. Does anyone out there have a local Gov't Council or Board of supervisors that have assisted your department in retaining members? Maybe incentives such as a cut in local sewer and water bills or anything similar at all? I assume I will receive a lot of "yeah rights" but just maybe there is a good idea out there.

We get lots of "you guys should have this and you guys should have that" stuff. It hasn't amounted to much. We have a good pension program and a tuition program along with free life insurance and free physicals. The advisory commission supports us and the pension comes from both the City and the Rural Fire Protection Board. I'd like free cable TV, the stations have it

I know that some towns in New Jersey given tax breaks to firefighters and breaks on permits and alot of towns are starting lenght of service programs a retirement program more or less.
