At present, two (of five) fire commissioners must sign all checks for both payroll and accounts payable in our department.
As a commissioner, I'm investigating the possibility of (1) direct deposit for paychecks; (2) empowering our chief officers to sign other checks. We are a paid department with 5,000 calls a year, three stations, and 60+ employees.
