Since you don't indicate what state you are in, I would suggest that somewhere in your state government, there is an agency which is responsible for training and certifying firefighters.

Having said that, they also can assist you in getting classes that you may like your members and officers if that is the case, to have and be educated in.

Do a Google search on your state's web site. Once there, you probably would see a box where you can type into and submit which you are looking for the agency.

I would type in firefighter training and see what comes up.

A clue a lot of states have a separate agency and some operate under the State Fire Marshal's Office.

Also in Maryland. I'm working off of memory, so I may miss a few of the requirements, but basically they are:

Sgt: FF1, HazMat Ops, First Responder
Lt: Above plus 18 yrs old, FFII.
Capt: Above plus 21 yrs old and Fire Officer 1
Deputy Chief: Above plus EMT-B and 1 yr as line officer
    Assistant Chief: Same as above
Chief: Above plus 1 yr as Chief Officer

Rescue officer are same as above but require EMT-B and I believe Rescue Tech.

These are county standards and some stations may have additional requirements.

Nothing less than what a Career Officer is required to have. From the lowest rank Officer to the highest ranked.

If you are going to be an Officer then you need to meets all standard as prescribed by the State of Maryland and MRFI.

I am working on updating our training requirements for our company officers. I belong to a combination department in Maryland, Does anyone have any recommendations or examples of what training you require for everyone from Lieutenants to the Fire Chief.
