My Department has been told that our four Assistant Chiefs should work 8hr days, with one of them always on call. Can anyone help me with a work schedule. These are paid positions so they will need to be compensated

Four chiefs to cover cover 24/7/365? try 24 hour shifts with 72 hours off. Or FDNY's schedual. You will need some help with NY because I don't really know all of the details. They work 9 to 1800 two days in a row then have some time off and work 1800 to 0900 two nights in a row a little more time off then back to days.
8 hour days would leave gaps in coverage and force OT or comp time when they respond to night alarms. It would also give you 4 chiefs on at some times, which is quite an overkill.Last edited by ADSNWFLD; 07-28-2003, 07:39 PM. -
Hey,
Came up with a plan for your chief schedule, which is a little odd but bear with me! 2 chiefs paid during the day everyday, 0800-1600. 1 chief on call at ½ pay for any problems overnight from 1600-0800. The next day, chiefs rotate as listed below. With this cycle, each chief has an annual average of 42 paid hours/week between station time & on call. Let’s take the month of July, for example:
July
1. C1 C2 day, C1 night
2. C2 C3 day, C2 night
3. C3 C4 day, C3 night
4. C4 C1 day, C4 night
5. C1 C2 day, C1 night
6. C2 C3 day, C2 night
7. C3 C4 day, C3 night
8. C4 C1 day, C4 night
9. C1 C2 day, C1 night
10. C2 C3 day, C2 night
11. C3 C4 day, C3 night
12. C4 C1 day, C4 night
13. C1 C2 day, C1 night
14. C2 C3 day, C2 night
15. C3 C4 day, C3 night
16. C4 C1 day, C4 night
17. C1 C2 day, C1 night
18. C2 C3 day, C2 night
19. C3 C4 day, C3 night
20. C4 C1 day, C4 night
21. C1 C2 day, C1 night
22. C2 C3 day, C2 night
23. C3 C4 day, C3 night
24. C4 C1 day, C4 night
25. C1 C2 day, C1 night
26. C2 C3 day, C2 night
27. C3 C4 day, C3 night
28. C4 C1 day, C4 night
29. C1 C2 day, C1 night
30. C2 C3 day, C2 night
31. C3 C4 day, C3 night~Kevin

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong
