  • Help for New Fire Chaplain!!!

It would be greatly appreciated if any one could provide information or training contacts for a new fire chaplain.

I am an ordained non-denominational minister who is a member of our newly organized Chickaloon Volunteer Fire Service in Chickaloon, Alaska. We underwent Basic Firefighter Training in November 2005 and this week-end had our first ongoing training. At the training our Fire Chief requested that I accept the position of Fire Chaplain for our organization. I accepted and began looking for information to gather specific training in this area.

    Thanks for your help!!

      Chaplin info

If you go to the National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial, there is a link for the "Chaplins Manual for Fire Dept. Funerals", which give info on the Federation of Fire Chaplins in Clifton, Texas. Which would hopefully lead you to other contacts and more info. Good Luck and God Bless.

If you find any good sources please share here, I cover for our Chaplin when he's not available, and could use some support/structure too.

        CharlieRFD3,

Congrats!! on the the Deputy Chief position. I am looking into joining the Federation of Fire Chaplains as a way to build resources and contcts. Thanks for the info. I am also a member of the United States Corps of Chaplains a group set up to provide support for victims of trauma and their families especially military and veterans. If you are interested in looking into that organization they are located at www.uscochq.com

        Thanks again for the response.

          Hi 1ChaplainLawler,

You might try www.apcm.org since you live in Chickaloon. I'm the Chaplain and a firefighter for Seward Fire Department. I found the Alaska Police Chaplains Ministry to be very valuable, even though it's heavily slanted towards police chaplaincy. They also cover general chaplain duties as well. I'm an ordained deacon in the Catholic Church and was asked to become the chaplain for our department after I assisted in an CISM debrief following a plane crash in which the pilot lived, but his passengers died.

I'm also a member of the Federation of Fire Chaplains and they've got lots of good stuff and support as well.
