My condolences to the Burroughs and Dorsey families, the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, and the families of all the victims of the Ghent Gas Explosion. On Tuesday January 30, 2007 two men were working on the two 500 pound propane storage tanks behind the Little General Store in Ghent, West Virginia when the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department responded to an odor of gas at the store. Captain Frederick Burroughs had arrived in his personal vehicle and FireFighter-EMT Craig Dorsey had arrived in a Ghent Ambulance when propane that had accumulated was ignited causing a massive explosion that leveled the store and overturned vehicles. Captain Frederick Burroughs, 51, and FireFighter-EMT Craig Dorsey, 24, and the two propane workers were killed by the blast. Four employees of the store and Ghent Volunteer FireFighter Donnie Caldwell were injured by the explosion. I have created a permanent memorial for Fred and Craig on my website.
