Any thoughts about program guidance for '07? Wondering which direction I need to be looking.

99% of the PG's priorities haven't changed since 2001. About the only thing that has is the vehicle matrix. Other than that the priorities have stayed the same so handling the results of your assessment won't change. They just may ask for more information this year than they did in past years.

      Significant changes in 07?

I got this from an email list I am on, they were announcing the AFG grant workshops put on by DHS:

"There will be significant change in the 2007 Assistance to Firefighters
Grant Program (AFGP) application process. Changes to the vehicle
concept will take place. Application start date will be around March 5
      2007 and ending April 6, 2007."

Also, has anyone seen the list of when the workshops will be, I checked the site this morning but couldn't find anything pertaining to 07 yet.

      Thanks

They've been sending the emails around the areas where they'll be at but haven't posted a full schedule yet. If you contact the FPS for your area they'll be able to tell you.

Any thing else besides vehicles, Our trucks are too new to apply for a vehicle, just wish I could say the same for the rest of our equipment.

Haven't seen/heard anything on equipment. Not really much to change there.

I really wish they wouldn't play games and keep this information top secret until right before the application opens. It's hard enough to write a vehicle grant, then they throw this out to sort of make everyone stop in their tracks and wonder. This sounds like a major change, and depending on what it is, it may make some departments not be able to apply for a vehicle for whatever reason (i.e., higher matching for vehicles vs. equipment, etc.) and have to start from scratch. Yeah, I know, preaching to the choir, right?

Just be aware that a rescue vehicle will not be funded especially if you are classifed as rural or suburban. A rescue vehicle is classified as a priority 2 for those classifications. Too many that need priority 1 vehicles for a priority 2 to be funded. Even though a rescue is a priority 1 for urban it is listed last in that catergory meaning pumps and ladders will have priority.

                  PG states:

Due to the competitive nature of this program and the imposed limits of funding available, it is unlikely we will fund any vehicles that are not listed as a Priority One.
The same conditions apply if you are looking at the EMS side of the grant. Ambulances or transport vehicles are priority 1 any other vehicle is priority 2 or 3.

The only one funded, that I'm aware of, is Brian's department which was in the first year of the program.

But there appears to be changes to the vehicle catergory for next year. Who knows what the changes will be.

                        Massachusetts

There are 9 sessions scheduled for MA at various sites beginning in February (8 in Feb/1 in March).

Go to the MFA on-line training directory and you will find the info for dates and times under "Federal Grant Writing Seminars". You can register on-line.

There are changes coming, but they could not elaborate since they had not recieved a syllabus on its content.
