  • FP grant for media package help

We're pursuing a package consisting of digi camera, digi projector, portable screen, laptop and software so that we can take our prevention message to the streets. We hope to target the kids, large elderly population, large Spanish-speaking with our small staff. Has anyone been succesful with a similar request and can give me some pointers? Thanks, Nicoyaspa

Digital cameras are too inexpensive to include nowadays, same with the projector screen. A decent camera is around $200, screens about the same price. You don't want to ask for things that will be close to your matching amount on the whole project because that tells them you have money but you're not willing to spend it getting some of the project completed. Same reason laundry lists fail.

      somewhat related...

You may be able to find free/inexpensive materials to hand out to the populations you mentioned at the Home Safey Council's Expert Network section:

"When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in this world. My hope is to leave the world a little better for my having been there."

I agree here. I had requested some materials from them, and last month I received a large box filled with brochures, pencils, coloring books, and a nice little tote bag, all for free. It will be great for our new fire prevention program I am developing.

Hate to change the subjsct, but I've been trying to start a thread since last week.

Would a tablet computer for pre-plans and inspections and also to place in the engine to pull up pre-plans on calls and the needed software be eligible for the FP Grant Program.

          Thanks for the help.

It won't fund computers for the all of units, but one to do the preplans on as well as the software is eligible. If you place it on an engine no biggie.

Your in Tunica and can't get a casino to donate you guys the money for a laptop in every apparatus? Wow! Someone needs to approach their "risk management" people. Just remind them about the Harrah's fire in Reno!

We tried to approach the casino that is in our are and they told us that they did not have the money to give. We HAD been providing them service for over ten years for free. We no longer respond to them due to the fact that they decided to give the County FD $150,000 a year. (The Casino is next to our city and not in our responce area, but we are the closest station).

Just a little tid bit of info. Casino are very difficult to deal with.

Were you dealing with the casino manager or the "risk manager". Big difference!
