  • Need help understanding AFG GRant process

I'm new to the AFG Grant process and could use some help. I applied online and did everything I was supposed to do. What next? I have been looking on the website each Fri. Is there something I am missing? I have read in other posts about 10q's, and 1199. What exactly is that?

The 1199A and 10 Q's are what we call the pre-award notifications. You only get them if you've been recommended for award, still no guarantee of award but pretty dang close. The 1199A would appear in the application, in the drop down box under the Action column on the right hand side. When you login it says View Application in it normally, with Grant/Revoke Access as the other option. The first good sign is that Update 1199A will appear in the drop down in between those 2 options, if you've never been awarded before. For those that have, looking at the old 1199A through the drop down for the first award they received it will have the newer EMW-2006 number on it.

The 10 Q's show up at some point after the 1199A does. They're listed in the Got 10 Q's thread.

    Hope that helps - Brian

        Hey Chief,
Here's part of an e-mail i sent out to someone early in the fall:

After nearly 5 months, none of us have had any word on our applications. Isn't this exciting?!?!? If you've not been following the discussions on firehouse.com, it is expected (and hoped) that the beginning of the notification process may start within the next few weeks. Now is the time to start logging in to your department's AFG site (www.firegrantsupport.com) every few days to look for:

        A. A request for updated profile information (slightly good indicator, but common)

        B. A request to update 1199A (direct deposit form) (very good indicator)

        --or--

        C. A list of questions about whether you want funds and stuff (GREAT indicator)

"A" will happen when you log in and is requested on occaision from everybody, award or not. "B" or "C" will come as a "1 new message" mention on the Status Page. If more than one person has access to the user ID, it's good every now and then to go to the top of the Status Page and click on "Mail Center" because once a new message is read, it goes into old messages and is not visible under the "Mail" header on the Status Page. Got it??

Hope that adds a little more clarity to the process. When the "Update 1199" link appears, you may only have one chance to make corrections, which must be made on the system and printed for signature. It's good to look at the banking info on your app and make sure it's right so that you can have the info on hand if you need to fix. (If you miss the chance to correct--don't worry. The Help Desk can "unlock" it again if you call them--i thought i cost us the first grant we were awarded!!)

I do not know if you are interested or not, but there are also several grant seminars that will be taking place in the very near future that will help you out with this. My department in Alum Bank, PA is planning to host one Jan. 20 and 21st and Earl's department(GREENACRES2) will be hosting one March 2 and 3rd. Drop us a email offline if interested.

            Thanks everyone

Well, I took your advice and checked out that website. Unfortunately, we received our Dear John letter. Oh well, maybe next year.
