Narrative Help for FP&S grant

Has anybody had any success with obtaining a grant for a VGA projector with laptop for a classroom setting under the FP&S grant? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just applied for a hazard house through FP&S. 1st timer. Hope we get it.

I've been racking my brains for the last two years trying to figure out what to apply for under the FP&S grant, I've come up with two possible ideas:

1) Install the Knox Box master key retention system into each of our apparatus (currently our keys just hang from the ignition - not a very secure system)

2) Purchase lots of 3" reflective numbers to install on mailboxes so we can find everyone in case of emergency. Approximately 30% of our 2,400 residences are not properly marked to display their house #.

Does anyone know if these would be allowable under the FP&S grant?

The knox box into the apparatus probably wouldn't fly because FP&S projects aren't really meant to buy anything for the sole use of the department. Knox boxes on buildings, yes, apparatus, probably not.

The numbers thing is probably allowable, but personally not seeing the feasability. After all, legally no one can dictate how visible house numbers are other than a homeowner's association maybe. Which is why most municipalities if they require anything it's numbers painted on the curbs. And even that gets some privacy nuts steamed for some reason, even though housing transactions are public records that anyone can look up. Details.

But as they say in the FP Guidance, other than what's listed as ineligible, anything is game if you can sell it right according to the priorities.

FP&S Help

A question for the experts. If applying for a FP&S Grant can you include expenses to send 2 members to the State Fire Academy to be certified as Life Safety Instructors? If so, can expenses like salary, travel, food etc. be added into the cost.

Yes, personnel costs are eligible for that purpose. It goes in a different budget category in that section of the application, so don't lump it all together.
