I am looking for a communications grant other than AFG and CDBG. Are there any out there?

Volunteer Fire Assistance program (thru your state forester) allows Base, Handheld, Programmable, Mobile Radios and Pagers (from the Iowa App). That covers most needs. 50% grant/50% your $. Max of $3500/yr

Check with your states fire marshal's office...Ohio will allow up to a maximum of $10,000 for communications through a grant program that is managed by the Fire Marshal's office.

Fireman's Fund is no matching and has no limit, although like any other program the more you ask for the less of a chance you have. Sometimes it's better to hit several small ones rather than one huge one and get a little going at a time. AFG is the largest $$ amount available for us, so if all else fails get a few things and then go after the rest in AFG in 2007.

Our County 911 board always seems to have plenty of money for communications equipment. That is where we go to get almost all of our radio equipment.

If you don't have a 911 system, or aren't represented on the 911 committee, I can see how it might be a problem.

Thanks Chief. I will make the call Mon. Brian, what is this "Fireman's Fund" you are talking about? Please, more info. We have tried USDA, city has too many irons in that fire already. I am trying a few other local avenues. Just trying to see what else might be out there.

Fireman's Fund Insurance Company runs the Heritage Program to benefit fire departments. Fill out the survey on their web site and then a local agent will take it from there and represent you to the board that makes the funding decisions.

www.firegraphics.org is my web site, there are a few other private programs on the Grants (link on main page) then Available Programs link. I'm still working on adding links but with FP season as well as the other apps I have in progress, well, only so much time in the day. I'm working on that though. Freeing up more time that is, not making the days longer. If I could do that I'd have won the lottery several times and started my own grant program.
