  • Got it!

Hey, got the call from our senator's office today; looks like we've got the grant. Just to form a time-line of sorts, we got the 1199a link on the 8th, I believe. Mailed off the forms to FEMA the next day by priority mail. So, that was about 2 weeks, give or take a day. Many thanks to all who have posted information, tips, and advice, especially BC79er.

ThNozzleman did you get the call today (10-22-03)? I ask because we received a phone call from the D.C. area this afternoon but noone left a message. Just curious to see if it was one of our representatives call with some info.

ccmfcchief, we received the 1199a update the same time ThNozzlman did and received the 7 questions exactly one week later. Hope this helps.

      GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE

      btw CONGRATS ThNozzleman!!!!!!!!!!

Does every department receive the 6 questions before they get an award? Do they email the questions or call you up on the phone? We had a 1199 request on 10-6-03 and had no contact with FEMA until 10-20-03 when they sent a email confirming the 1199A has been accepted by their financial system. Check my email many times during the day hoping that I will have the questions.

          Noz:
That's great news. It's great to read of the success and feel the excitement of the good news.
I know that I have made my disappointment abundantly clear, but I am truly happy for those who have shown their class and their support for their departments and communities by getting federal tax dollars to improve what I am sure is an already very good department.
Congratulations. Your department's hard work paid off.
          Enjoy the moment.

ThNozzleman did you get the call today (10-22-03)?
We received the official calls from our Senators on the 22nd. FEMA called us the day that we noticed the 1199a link in the drop down box and "submitted" the info. That's when we answered "the questions." The 1199a link in the drop down box also changed to "view 1199a." We then printed off the form by clicking the link directing us to do so. It reached FEMA the next day by priority mail. Our Senators are coming today (this afternoon) for the "presentation."

Thanks for the congrats, guys. CR, I still think there are aspects of the Fire ACT that can be changed for the better. This is our third year in applying, and our first award. My main fear is that the move to the ODP will effectively kill this program. I still note that the fine people in charge of this still refer to us as "first responders" and NOT firefighters. This doesn't sit well with me, I can tell you that.

We got our "6" questions on September 24 and 1199A link the day after. Everything was sent in to FEMA immediately after that.

Still no word form them. Is this unnusual? Just getting a bit worried.

Just got off the phone with grant specialist #2. Had some mistakes on the 1199a form that needed to be corrected. Jerry1A you might want to call them concerning your 1199a form. You should have received a confirmation that it was accepted and approved by FEMA. The lady i talked to said that unless all the info is correct, you would not be notified. I was sent an e-mail today concerning the errors on the form. She released the online form for me to make the corrections. Now everything should be in order. Hopefully we'll hear something next week.

                    GOOD LUCK AND STAY SAFE

                      Finally!

Noz, my man; you are the shining example. Someone who got their grant and still says "you know what; we got money, but the program can be improved".
You lift my spirits and make my heart soar!
Thank you for your honesty. It is refreshing.

Guys, congratulations to all that received a grant this year, and good luck to all still waiting to hear. We were fortunate enough to receive a grant also after losing out the past 2 years. However, I do have a question. In the drop down box on the application, there is a link that says "grant/revoke access". Does anyone know what this means? I don't want to click on it without first knowing what it means.

                          Firechief15201,

I'm the same way. I would hate to hit a button just for the h*** of it and lost all the money for my company. Somethings are better not knowing what they do. Maybe someone who has more guts than us can tell us.

                            Re; grant revoke box

Its ok to open if you are the grant admin for your dept., it would be where you or the grant administrator could add or remove your contact info for the application, like if you had your chief, or a deputy chief down for the 2 or 3rd contact and there was a change in command structure. You should have at least 2 preferably 3 people able to access in case you need to change something. FOr us its myself, my grant committee co-chair, and the chief has the info locked away in case its needed if my co-chair or myself were unavailable, death, injury, vacation, etc. whatever my befall us poor mortals.

Good luck with your grant, we are still waiting, wishing, hoping, praying, crossing everything, etc, etc.
(should now be CharlieRFD,past,Pres.), but I've had this screen name for so long, I'm keeping it..., besides I'm Deputy Chief now.

Hey, you know it would take a LOT more money than that to get me to shut MY big mouth!
Seriously folks, I would stop worrying about it. Don't stress over whether or not you miss "that call," or not. If you land a grant, they WILL contact you if your info is correct. I'll tell ya, the first year we were excited; no grant. The second year, we were optimistic; no grant. This year, we didn't give it a second thought after working on the narrative, so we didn't have any stress about it at all. I basically took a look at some successful grants from the last few years and used what techniques I thought would best represent OUR needs in the most polite manner, along with some ideas of my own. Apparantly, it worked. Again, thanks to all the congrats from you guys. I now know the bitter-sweet taste of winning a grant for ourselves, but knowing that so many of you will not be successful this year. And, the fact that I fear the changes in the control of OUR grant program (I think we are justified in calling it "ours") is going to make it much less effective, makes it even worse.
