What BC said I believe is that we are nearing the halfway point... I believe he stated that we have given out just over 313 million dollars. So maybe my district does still have a chance... God I hope so...

All things I say...while not always making sense are ALWAYS my opinion and only mine. They do not reflect the opinions of any department of which I am a member.
Actually, based on some rough calculations there is approximately $286 million available for Firefighter Equipment/Safety/EMS, $33 million for Fire Prevention and $117 million for vehicles.
I based this on the percentages in the Federal Register and what has been awarded to date.
It would be really nice if we knew the actual totals by category and the totals by category that received the "Dear John" letters. Then we could figure out the total apps still in the running in each category.
Tough to guess because they really haven't been too consistent in handing out set numbers or dollar amounts per round. Last year they seemed to have attempted to keep the dollar amount above a minimum of about $30 million per round, 2 rounds per month. They're handing out 4 rounds per month (5 if 5 Thursdays), so the total per month is more, but it's not flowing as fast considering there's more than twice as much money available. I can't remember exactly how many (13 or 14) rounds went last year, but I think that even though they're doing more rounds, the money isn't adding up as fast, so since we're only at Round 18, 4,600 awards for $316 mil, we're not even at the halfway point.
Depending on how many awards there are that is. Their original estimate was 7000 awards. Revised underground info pointed to 9000 awards. Either way I think we're not going to hear the fat lady sing until the end of February. Just in time for a mad rush to build a 2004 application. Personally, I'd start working on Plans A thru C now if you haven't heard anything yet.
