  • Info for beginning the grant process

    Hello all,
My department has never applied for a grant. First of all, when does the application process for the 2004 Fire Act grants begin? Next, where do we obtain the application? What kind of information should we be prepared with (specs for new equipment, financial status, population, etc.) before we begin the application? If you have any other helpful tips or tricks you would like to share, feel free. I assume this is a time consuming project, but well worth the end result if successful. Thank you in advance for any information.

Keep checking FEMA and USFA's web site at www.usfa.fema.gov, as the rules, application dates and all of that good stuff will appear there. Also, Firehouse.com has been very vigilant in posting all of that information as well. So far in all 3 years, the application period ran for about 5 weeks starting in March. Early indications suggest the same for next year.

I highly suggest starting now to gather the information. Run reports, budget and other basic statistical information will be needed. Also figure out what you want and if that is really your greatest need, or just a shot in the dark because it would be nice to have.

Feel free to check out other application narratives on my web site at www.firegraphics.org/grants.htm or on Rodney Slaughter's web site at www.dragonflynet.com.
