  • Question For BC79er

    Brian,
In all your data collecting for this years FIRE Grant, have you done a breakdown by state ? I've been looking at different states to see how the awards are in relation to our own request. It seems that some have a lot of departments receiving awards. Although I have not looked at all fifty states. Just curious.
Thanks for your time and efforts in all that you have contributed for those of us that are hopeful.
    Tom

I am not BC, but I think I can help, go here: www.firegraphics.org/grants.htm I believe he has it broken down into what you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply EC. Been running around all weekend and I'm just getting back to the computer.

Anyway, yes, the ByState-Category and ByState-Summary reports have the number of awards in each Category for each state, and the Total $$ they've gotten. Category is obviously each grant category, and summary is the total for all categories. I don't have the requests lined up but if you go to the USFA site (www.usfa.fema.gov), under the Grants page there's a list of the states and how many apps for how much money each state put in for. Since they have that I didn't bother sticking it on my site.

All 3 reports are in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) so you can either download or view in your browser.

        Hey Brian,
Do you have any idea how many dept's applied for medical equipment? I see only 22 or 23 have been awarded so far. I would have thought there would have been more. My dept applied in this category. We are trying to make all of our apparatus BLS minus IV's.
        Thanks

there were 213 applications for EMS in 2003

If you have powerpoint check out this PowerPoint presentation from FEMA, it breaks the categories down of applications.

I have a question for you BC79er, Our dept. put in for the grant for the 1st time and we had problems with our "Firehouse program" that we are using to submit our fire reports with and they (Albany) told us that they could not read our disk. So we got the programmer involved and they hopefully figured it out. anyways what we did is sent them in on paper and we are still not sure if we are "up to date in their records." So, my question is does that put us out of the running for this years grant? Please advise. thanks

The only requirement with NFIRS reporting is after you are awarded you have to report. If you did beforehand, great, but it's not a requirement. Unless of course you won last year also because it was a requirement then, but since it looks like there were technical difficulties, I don't see them getting uptight about it. You tried to submit and there were problems. These things happen. At least the attempt was made. But like I said, it doesn't mean anything for this year if you report to NFIRS or not. Only after being awarded is it necessary.
