    FOLKS!!!!!!!!

PLEASE read this story if you have NOT already.

GETTING A CALL DOES ***********NOT********** GUARANTEE ANYTHING. YES, ITS A GOOD SIGN. BUT........some departments that got calls last year ENDED UP NOT getting funding for multiple reasons.

DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING until the announcement is made, and you recieve the formal grant award packet.

We're sorry, but we cannot permit rumors to be spread here. It has led to disappointment in the past with departments that see other users posting here and the same thing that happened to them may not relate to another department.

AGAIN, PLEASE read this story, which answers many of the questions being posted here:

          What Call

What does it mean if you have heard nothing? Have the deer john letters gone out or will we never know until all awards are announced. Also, I am about to go out of town for three weeks. What if the call comes while I am gone. Will they wait?

            quoting the article on firehouse.com

"Cowan and Goodman asks for patience. It is possible the awards will continue into June of 2004 (they are hoping to be done sooner). Somewhere around 7000 applications (5316 in the 2002 program) will be successful receiving their requested chunk of about $681 million total. That leaves about 8000 that made it through peer review but the money will run out before it gets to them. They will be notified as it becomes clearer that the funds will not extend to them, later in the process.

Then there are the applications that did not make it to the peer review, about 5000 that failed in some vital element of the application. They will be receiving notices in perhaps July or August. This year Cowan said, they will attempt to be more clear and specific in explaining why the application didn't make it. “It’s a little more complicated this year and we think we need to be more responsive to the departments,” Cowan said. Reasons will probably fall into areas of failure to clearly define the financial need or cost-benefit or an unclear narrative. "
