  • Tanker/Tender

In looking at the grant guidance it doesn't state anything regarding pumps on a tanker/tender. Other apparatus states minimum sizes of pump/tank but under the tanker/tender only tank size is mentioned. So simply, can you request a tanker/tender with a pump?

I also understand they have award ranges for types of vehicles. What is the basic range of award for tanker/tender?

Vague is key. In your narrative state that you want a pump on the apparatus. Justify why you want the pump. Is it a daytime attack apparatus with more water when manpower is limited - great, just state that. Is it so that you can fill yourself or other apparatus at a fill site - great, just state that.

There is no pump size in the guidance because some people need a pump and some don't want one. Then you throw vacuum pumps in and it adds all new layers of complexity. If the main purpose is to carry additional water and it meets the minimum requirements, it is a tanker/tender. Anything above and beyond the minimum just needs justified.

Ours was written as minimum 2000 gallons with minimum 1000 gpm pump and we justified those specs. When it came time to purchase, we got a 1500 gpm pump for the same price, so no issue upgrading.
