You can download a list of initial awards at: https://www.fema.gov/media-library/a...cuments/188695

I'ts hard not to notice that the City with the 3rd largest award also hosts a certain individual's golf resort.

Oh please. Really? Please take the uninformed political BS somewhere else.

Well, I can't help noticing that the 5th largest award went to the hometown of the previous president. So proceed with your spin on that.

I simply made an observation. I can only control my own thoughts (and comments), not that of others. If others want to make it into political statement, that's their mind set, not mine. I do understand that under the 1st Amendment, they have the right to their opinion, as do I. I do not believe that every statement has to represent a political position. Apparently others disagree.

Actually the first amendment does not state you have a right to an opinion. You can read it anytime you want and get an education.

Until then, continue to be a dick.

I must be missing something because when I look at it the City with the 3rd highest award is San Jose. I guess I am not enough of a golf fanatic to know who owns golf resorts in the City of San Jose.

I have been applying for AFG awards since 2006. I understand two things:

                    1) You don't get what you don't ask for !
                    2) it is better to be needy, not greedy.

When I compare the awards to the City of Los Angeles and the City of Doral I have to wonder.

The population of Los Angeles is 12,447,000, the City of Doral is 60,970.
Doral received 382% of the dollars that Los Angeles received, yet has only 1/2% of the population.
Los Angeles received $0.018 per resident.
The City of Doral received $14.26 per resident.

Cost per resident is just one factor. My department was funded for a vehicle with a cost of over $64 per resident. That's divided up over 20 years, but even then it's much higher than L.A.'s 1.8 cents.

This was a supplemental AFG award to defer the cost of necessary PPE and other critical supplies to combat COVID19. My understanding is that the requests were to defer monies already expended. If awards were made for ambulances, I could see the differential in award per resident. I have not seen any indication that vehicles were eligible.

Well, I bow to your experience with the grant program. I have been writing since the program started, and was successful in that first grant period. Since then, it has been literally millions in successful grants. I have done peer review so many times I have lost count. But I digress.

Over the years I have seen how hard the grant team works to make sure the process is as fair as possible. They have done so in a spectacular manner. Insulting them is the mark of the truly uneducated.

Let me do a little research. Something anyone casting that first stone should try.

A quick look at their department. 49 fire stations. 50 EMS units, including 5 reserve units. If you look at the basics, around 18k a station, but if you added a decon unit for each EMS unit, it looks to be a bargain. (Anyone know how much one of those decon robots that you put in your EMS unit cost?)
