  • Crickets as December 2nd approaches...

    It's been very quiet on the AFG front with the purported opening date of December 2nd just around the bend. Will it open or not? Who the heck knows?

    Either way, take advantage of the extra time. Discuss it with your officers, key personnel, and governing bodies. Get the formal approval you'll need to apply. Make sure you choose the strongest project, not the most popular one. Look for something with measurable outcomes in terms of NFPA and OSHA standards. Talk to neighboring agencies about regional options.

    Make sure you have a plan for providing your share of the cost.

    Talk to your vendors. Get quotes for everything you're planning to request. Have them pad the prices to allow for cost increases because we all know this is a marathon, not a sprint.

    Get your FEMA GO set up. Make sure you have a SAM to link it to.

    Get your data--contact information, call volume, budget numbers, age of the things you plan to replace, square mileage & population of your area, all that stuff.

    Whether or not it opens the 2nd, the 9th, or whenever, you can get started on your applications NOW.

    *_FY 2019 AFGPGrant Application-- System for Award Management (SAM) Reminders_*

    The FY 2019 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) application period is anticipated
    to be opening in the winter of 2019/20. All Assistance to Firefighters(AFG),
    Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER), and Fire Prevention and
    Safety (FP&S) grant applicants must have an active SAM.gov registration with current
    information at the time of application, while an application is pending, or have an
    active federal award.

    __________________________________________________ ______________________

    Before the application period opens, you *must *check your SAM.gov account and make
    sure that you are registered and that it is *ACTIVE* because you will not be able to
    start, or submit your application without an active SAM.gov registration.

    Please ensure the following items are current in the System for Award Management
    (SAM) and the Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number used in SAM.gov is the
    same one you use for all FEMA applications:

    * Organizations name
    * Address
    * DUNS
    * Employer Identification Number (EIN)
    * Banking information (type of account (checking or saving), routing number, and
    account number
    * Many websites may look official in appearance but are not. As a reminder,
    registration in the SAM.gov is FREE
    * *SAM.gov registrations are only active for one year and registration must be
    renewed and revalidated at least every 12 months from the date previously
    registered to avoid being INACTIVE.*
    * This information should be consistent in all registration documents
    If God be for us, who can be against us. Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the light.
