  • Gear Dryer Grant

Just wondering what you all think our chances are of getting a grant for a gear dryer. We are looking at the RamAir System. We purchased a washer last year but have no way to dry the gear other than hanging them in the racks to air dry. We received a grant in 2008 for all new gear so i am thinking that will help. If anyone has a narrative for a dryer could you pass it along?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Very similiar situation here. We received turnout gear in the past and hose this year. I was looking into a cabinet dryer that could be used for turnout gear and hose, which I did find one. We do have a washer but no dryer. Figured the dryer would be a good fit this year, as it would assist in protecting the investments made. Has anyone had any success with the cabinet type dryers and if so how much did they cost? There seems to be several at varying quality. Also, if anyone has a narrative for one I wouldn't mind taking a look at it.

The cabinet and Ramair driers both work but in my opinion are outrageously priced for what they are. And most aren't even painted red.

Certainly doable and frequently awared, with TO gear and a washer extractor. I don't know about as a stand alone app. thought.

Look at Cyclone TO gear dryer. Different design style but works just as well and a LOT less $.

You can extedn your cost benefit by making sure it has ability to have hose racks inserted for drying your hose supply to put you back in service sooner.

          ppe dryer

We have the Williams Direct Dryers and are pretty happy with them.

We purchased the "PS2 Portable 2 Set" for 3 out of our 7 stations.

It says "2 Sets". It actually only does one full set at a time. (1 set of shells and 1 set of liners).

Having it on casters is a plus.

Pretty expensive though. About $3000 for each unit.

            Dryer

Like Kurt said, if you get an unit that does gear and hose, you get more 'credit'. We included a hose tester, hose rack, hose-washer, loading table, and combo dryer in our hose grant and were approved in 2009. Washer, dryer, and loading table came from Circul-Air. We have been well pleased with them so far. Seems to be nothing short of a miracle for washing hose. We ran every bit of our and most of our neighbors hose through the machine. Run 10 -12 sections at a time as that is a load for the dryer. Takes about 10 -12 hours to dry on low heat. Gear hangers are not included, but work much better than laying on racks, so they are a good add too. http://www.circul-air-corp.com/products.php

So, the answer is that is is doable and has been approved.

If you don't mind, could you send me your narrative for this or any ideas on what these things go for. I'm putting together a 2011 grant for hose and a hose tester but don't know enough about the hose washers and dryers. Thanks

I've been pricing dual purpose dryers for hose and gear. The pricing has been very different between units. The Circul-Air unit is priced at $13,500. The Cissell unit is in the range of $5,450. The largest difference I can tell is the amount of hose that can be dried in the Circul-Air unit is greater than the Cissell unit. I am also pricing out the Fire Research unit, which isn't as nice looking as the other two but seems to have the same capabilities. Does anyone have any of these units? Are there any other unit out there? Has anyone been awarded any of these units. I don't know what FEMA's max allowable for something like this is but $13,500 seems high.

                  Cyclone dryers http://www.heatercraft.com/category.aspx?categoryID=58
Work great for TO gear and much less expensive that the other options you mentioned.

I'm told also used for drying hose ("weave thru the arms") but have not seen this.

There was an AFG award this year for a Drying Cabinet for $8,717.

We use the Geardry Pro from FRC. Just gear no hose capabilities. Works well, but a little loud when operating. I believe we paid around $5K for it.

TVFD was awarded a grant for the washer and dryer for $15,000 (Fed share of $14,250). We went with the Williams Direct PPE dryer that holds 5 sets.

The Circul-Air units are very expensive.....but seem to be the best for both hose and turnout gear. How much were you awarded for these units? They are advertised at $13,500 a piece.
