Hey Jim what kind of training narrative in particular are you looking for?
I have a question for you since you handled a Reg. Comm. grant before. Last week I was awarded VHF to 700 P-25 cross band repeater to go with my last year’s communication grant. The plan was so we could talk on the state’s new 700meg. P-25 radio system when they get it up and going. My problem is that the state dropped their plains to build it about three weeks ago. Do you think AFG will let me change it to VHF to UHF cross band repeater? Some of the departments in our county are still using UHF and can’t talk to us on VHF. Maybe that is something that Blake has run across before and could answer if he is still up. Well really anyone that has come across something like this I would appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks dfd701

For the most part you must complete the grant process as written in the application. In this situation you should contact your FPS and explain the situation to assist in a course of action. Since interoperability is the key issue they may not have an issue with a change, but you need to ask and you may have to submit an amendment.

Bet your glad you didn't buy into the states 700 mhz system.
That's the problem with comms right now. The states are telling us these grandiose plans of building out these super systems:::::: Until they figure out how much they are going to have to spend to really make them work.

Call up the grants specialist handling your file. Odds are it will need to go back to the technical reviewer for clarification on the reason for switching from 700 mhz to UHF.

Under the circumstances you are going to have to file an amendment and explain out what has happened. Since that application would have had to be approved as consistent with your SCIP, prior to award, I would say for sure that you should get something in writing from the states Emergency Communication director stating what is going on and include that in your amendment request.

              Frankly,
I think AFG will let you change it. I would document as much as you can OR get some key statements from key state officials who wish to support interoperability in your state. Remember the new narrowbanding requirements for Jan1st 2013 are still in effect and approach it from that standpoint.

Actually, I think you should just say that you have found out from comm experts that staying out of the 700 - 800 Mhz is being recommended by many. Keep it simple and see if they AFG help desk returns a written OK. If they don't, say the UHF, VHF will also return a cost savings for your project. If they don't give you the approval then, keep working to save it.

I am betting they will with a two sentence request.

My training narrative request was for nfpa 1001 FF1 and FF2 project.

My new radio system is working just fine now. Some departments are upset that they didn't request enough pagers and handhelds when I collected the information. Now they need to submit an application for themselves to add to their current equip list.

My guru tells me that these type of supplemental apps are not being scored well as they already got a comm grant and didn't plan properly. Unless they show an increase in members to match the needed new equipment, and even then it will be for pagers only.

And since you both share the same guru, he should already know that and is probably telling them about same. LOL!
