Found this last night. Not a grant ,but a scholarship for young people that can be up to 10k for the top winners.
Those of you with a junior program might be able to use this for assistance.

Hey Ed that sounds promising. We have started an explorer program in our department and something like that would help entices them to join. We have always turned away anyone under 18 but as most departments we aren’t getting any new volunteers. We have to do something. It is too much for the kids to do now days with they’re smart phones & video games. Well unless they are using them for research and education purposes it seems like a waste of time. They don’t seem to want to work for free. Deferent day and time since I was a young man. We have picked up a hand full of high school kids that are motivated and making good grades. You can really tell right off if their parents are spending time with them and teaching them to be respectful to others. They are so many that are left alone because both parents are working just to make ends meet and they are leaving it up to the school teachers to teach them what the parents should be doing. That is why our county at whole is failing our children.

We come from a different time my friend.


When we were growing up parents were a part of our daily lives and there were chores to be done both in the morning and after school. Not doing them was NOT an option to be taken lightly.

We did not have all the electronic distractions in our lives , we had chores.We played outside and got plenty of exercise and fresh air.

We didn't eat Mc rat meat & fries,

A happy meal was sunday dinner at grandma's.

My wife quit teaching after 20 years because of the added load of being a parent to all her students as well as their teacher. She spent more hours per day with the kids than most of their parents.

we had respect and yes genuine fear of our teachers and mouthing off to them was a sure ticket for a trip to the assistance principles office for a little discipline.

Then when you got home there was hell to pay because the school had called to let your parents know about your indiscretions at school.

I hope that you can take advantage of this program for your juniors.

When I got in trouble, the whipping I was gonna get at home scared me 10 times worse than what the school could give me. We signed a form when my kids started kindergrden that allows the teacher to paddle the child, and again, I have told both of my kids that what they get at school won't hold a candle to wht they will get when they come home.

Texas still has the same paddling forms, but unfortunately most school districts don't acknowledge them. Methinks maybe that's one of the problems with behavior these days. Of course I think some of the parents need a paddling worse than the kids...

And I'm with Derrick, scariest thing you can ever say to a kid: Just wait until your father gets home...

I lived in Mesquite Texas as a kid for 6 years back in the 60's.
The teachers expected a yes Ma'am or No Ma'am response from us , or ELSE!

Act up and they would just point towards the door, which meant a trip down the hall to the assistant principles office. He had a choice of two different paddles. One had 1/2 inch holes drilled in it and the other was smooth. I remember the one with holes stung a lot more than the smooth one.
The holey one was reserved for those that paid more than one visit a month.

Not sayin I had an attitude in the 6th grade or anything like that, I was just a little thick headed when it came to responding appropriately to some of the teachers.
I did however learn by the time I moved to 7th grade.
The worst part was knowing what would be waiting for you when you got home because the asst principle made it sound like you were an ax murderer on the phone to your parents.
