I would like to outfit our EMS crews with turnout gear. We are one of only two departments in our county that has a combination fire and EMS department. Since we have two crews in service most of the time, it could possibly give us four more personnel right off the bat to help at a fire. It would also protect them better when working at MVA's. Any ideas or has anyone been awarded somthing like this before?

Turnout gear for EMS

As long as they're FF certified you can get them bunker gear no matter what horse they ride in on. But if they are only EMS certified then you can only apply for EMS gear for them. Done several for those that run EMS with EMT/FFs on the buses and gotten both bunker gear and EMS gear. After all, PPE wasn't meant for EMS calls, just has BSI for rescuing burned fire victims. Most cost-effective to have EMS BSI gear for all that respond on that because if it is contaminated then you don't lose a FF while the bunker gear is out being decon'd.Brian P. Vickers
