On Tuesday, August 19, 2003 seven companies of Firefighters, two Chief Officer Command Teams and two Rescue Ambulances from the LAFD and one engine and a light force from the LACOFD under the direction of Battalion Commander Millage Peaks responded to a greater alarm structure fire at 321 S. Almont Drive in the Pico/Robertson area. First units on scene reported a three-story apartment building with one unit on the top floor with smoke showing. Firefighters using handlines confined the fire to the unit of origin and extinguished the fire in twenty minutes. During the extinguishment phase the remains of an elderly male were found in the apartment. No Firefighter injuries were reported. Approximately twenty adults were displaced from the fire floor and the American Red Cross was notified for placement assistance. The cause is under investigation and the loss is still being tabulated..
