ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Eight people are safe after being rescued on the Licking River in Rowan County.

It happened near the Flintlock Circle area off KY 801 near the Farmers community.

First responders say all eight people were kayaking on the river when some kayak's began overturning do to trees in the water.
Rescue crews tell WKYT seven of the eight kayakers were stranded some without life jackets, but the eighth was able to stay in their kayak and paddle for help.Rowan County Swiftwater Group responded.Three local fire departments makeup the group.Farmers,Morehead and Route 377 Fire Rescue units responded with three swiftwater boats.

Crews say all eight people, two men and six women, were rescued safely and suffered no injuries.
