Valley Hills Home Destroyed by Fire

    (By Tish Dahmen, Wave Editor)

A Heber City family barely escaped a 2 a.m. fire that destroyed their home and caused an estimated $300,000 in damages.
“It’s a possible total loss,” Janet Carson, Wasatch County Fire Department information officer, said.
Carson said neighbors of Anthon and Eileen Beales reported the late night fire. “It was called in as a fully engaged fire,” Carson said. Fire fighters and fire engines from Heber City, Midway, Wallsburg, and Jordanelle responded.
Neighbors were trying to hose down the house, located at 580 Willow Circle in the Valley Hills subdivision, when fire engines arrived.
The sleeping family was alerted to the fire danger when they heard popping sounds. “That was probably the sound of the fire climbing up the side of the house,” Carson said. “Their smoke alarms didn’t go off. It’s unbelievable. They woke up to the fire already fully engaged.”
Eileen Beales, homeowner, said when she and her husband heard an explosion, they jumped into action. She said she remembers thinking that the fire was out on the deck. They had recently had their barbeque propane tank filled and she said she thought it was the tank that exploded. “We heard it slam against the house. But we didn’t know the eaves were already on fire.”
Carson said, “It was a very hot fire. One of the hottest I’ve ever seen.”
Beales said her daughter,....for the rest of the story
