On October 7 at 0315 hours Wagon 4, Squad 8, Tower 1, and Tower 3 (Task Force 1) under the command of Captain 4 responded to the 1400 block of Mayflower Street for a structure fire. Dauphin County Fire advised units of rapid calls and jumpers. The Squad arrived on the scene reporting heavy fire and smoke from multiple structures. The 2nd alarm was immediately struck. The 2-2 brought Wagon 3, Tower 2, and York Co. Rescue 69 (RIT) to the scene. The fire involved a row of four occupied and vacant, 3 story frame dwellings in which 3 were fully involved. At 0320 hours firefighters were evacuated and minutes later a third alarm struck. Truck 32 (Progress), Truck 50 (Steelton), Engine 37 (Susquehanna Twp.), Engine 301 (Penbrook), and Cumberland County Air 13 (West Shore Bureau of Fire- Lemoyne) filled out the assignment. Chief 2 assumed command and with numerous handlines and platform streams operating knocked down the main body of fire in about 20 minutes. Crews re-entered the structure to perform overhaul and mop-up operations. The last units cleared the scene around 0700 hours with B platoon handling the job. No firefighter or civilian injuries/fatalities were reported.
