Fire investigated as possible arson:
The Tallahassee Fire Department is investigating an early-morning house fire as a possible arson, TFD spokeswoman Pat Teague said Thursday. A passer-by called to report smoke coming from a home in the 1100 block of Gibbs Drive shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, she said. Investigators said the fire appears to have been set outside the house near the ground, then to have spread inside. The home is a rental property that was not occupied, Teague said. The house had smoke and fire damage of about $20,000, she added. Rewards of up to $2,500 are available from the Florida Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention for information leading to anyone responsible for the fire, Teague said. For more information, contact Teague at 891-6611 or Investigator Frank Mohr at 891-6679.
