A local woman barely escaped her burning home Sunday afternoon when a fried came to visit and woke her by pounding on her locked door. Firefighters from Scipio Township were called to the house on 200 South in southern Laporte County at about 4 PM. Mutual aid was requested from Kingsbury and Noble township.
Scipio Township Chief Walter Sass established command and began an interior attack, with the first floor well involved on arrival. Noble Township Chief William "Mick" Hunsley sert up water supply and his crew assisted with the initial attack. Upon their arrival, Kingsbury Captain Wayne Zeman and his crews completed the interior attack on the second story, ventilated the roof and worked with Scipio until the end of the incident on salvage and overhaul.
Crews cleared the scene at 8pm.
