  • Hollywood, CA Hospital Fire

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A fire spread through several unoccupied
floors of a Hollywood hospital Tuesday, prompting patient
    evacuations but causing no injuries.
The fire was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the 434-bed
Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Fire
    Department spokesman Jim Wells said.
About a dozen patients in beds and wheelchairs, some still
attached to monitors and intravenous tubes, were rolled out to a
parking lot and taken by ambulances to another hospital about a
    block away.
The patients were returned after the fire was extinguished after
    about half an hour.
The fire started on the third floor in the hospital's north
tower and spread to the fourth and fifth levels, Wells said. All
the floors except the ground level where the emergency room is
located were unoccupied because of seismic retrofitting, said David
Langness, director of communications with Tenet Healthcare Corp.,
    owners of the hospital.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
