TACOMA (AP) - An intense two-alarm fire in a heating and cooling
supply warehouse sent up smoky clouds visible for miles Wednesday
night and disrupted traffic on a main south Tacoma thoroughfare.
One firefighter suffered arm burns while another was dispatched
to a hospital for evaluation of elevated pulse and blood pressure,
said Deputy Chief Gary Schiesz.
Some 50 firefighters fought the blaze at Thrifty Supply, first
reported at 7:49 p.m. and contained by about 10 p.m.
The building was still too hot late Wednesday night for
investigators to enter to try to determine the cause of the fire,
Schiesz said.
South Tacoma Way was still closed in the area at 10:15 p.m.
The building contained heating and air conditioning ducts,
Schiesz said.
