PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Fire spread across the top floor of a
16-story apartment building Wednesday, injuring two firefighters,
authorities said.
The firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, Battalion
Chief Earl Plaviere said. One was expected to stay at the hospital
for observation.
More than 100 firefighters from neighboring towns helped battle
the fire, which started around 5:30 p.m. and burned for more than
three hours.
Most residents were allowed back inside the Presidential
Boulevard building by 11:30 p.m., Plaviere said. Several apartments
near the top floors had heat and water damage and were not
habitable.
