Thursday, 6-5-03, Concord VFD was once again called out to a house fire at the intersection of Concord and Swisher RDs. Havana VFD was also called for mutual aid. Rescue 1, Engine 6, and Tanker 71, along with 7 members of Concord VFD responded to the the blaze. Havana VFD responded with 2 engines and 1 tanker, along with 6 members.
The initial alarm (on pager) indicated that there was a reported structure fire on Concord Road between Fairbanks Ferry RD and Concordia Baptist Church. Rescue 1 cruised through this area and couldn't find any sign of a fire. The rescue truck then pulled into the parking lot of the church to contact the SO (Sheriff's Office) to let them know that Rescue 1, Engine 6 were en-route. The SO advised that the same house that burned the night before was once again on fire.
Upon arrival on scene, Rescue 1 advised SO that Rescue 1, Engine 6 were on scene, that the structure was fully involved, and that Havana VFD was needed for backup.
The blaze took nearly 2 hours to bring under control. Concord performed over 2 hrs. of overhaul after the fire was brought under control. While in the middle of the fire, Tanker 71 (2,000 gallons) made 2 shuttle runs. Havana's tanker (2,000 gallons) also made 2 shuttle runs. One of Havana's engines made a shuttle run too. In all, over 18,000 gallons of water were used to put out the house. The structure is now a complete loss. Many of the Concord members, along with the Fire Marshall think that the structure will probably catch on fire again. If it does catch on fire again, Concord is going to let it burn, while protecting the house next door.
