A week ago today, Farmland Indiana Volunteer Fire Department responded to a 3 to 4 acre compost fire north of Farmland. Upon arrival we found the compost fully involved. We called 6 other departments for mutual aid for manpower and tankers. We dumped about 100,000 gallons of water on the fire. Since then, we have been back out there 6 times trying to get the stupid thing out. Our problem is it is about 15 feet high. We have used piercing nossels to try to penetrate down and get it out.

We had the same problem with a fire about two years ago. Simple solution, get thee farmer to open it up with a tractor with a bucket, or a bobcat.I.A.C.O.J. Charter Member
