JANE, Mo. (AP) - A truck driver suffered severe burns when
spilled gasoline from a hose he was using to fill a gas station
storage tank exploded Tuesday morning.
Danny Eversole of Springdale, Ark., was taken to St. Johns
Hospital in Springfield by helicopter, suffering from severe burns
to his face, head, arms and upper body. His condition was unknown
Tuesday night.
Eversole is a driver for Mitchell Oil Co. of Fayetteville, Ark.,
and was filling up a 6,000-gallon storage tank located behind the
Jane Store.
Store owner Joyce Marrs said she saw gasoline flowing out of the
hose before it ignited, destroying the cab of Eversole's truck and
part of the truck's tank. Eversole was able to run away from the
explosion.
Neither the 6,000-gallon tank nor a smaller adjoining
2,500-gallon tank exploded. Firefighters poured water on the tanks
to cool them down.
Kenneth Haynes, a volunteer McDonald County firefighter, was
blown 30 feet through the air and suffered a minor injury to his
hand when a wheel on the fuel truck exploded.
