  • Chesterfield Scuba Team,4 Stations Team Up to Save Stranded Victim

    May 26, found Chesterfield County
    plagued with flash flood complications
    and close call rescues.One such rescue
    occurred on Spring Run Rd.
    "The call came in about 3:45." said
    Battalion Chief Bowman."People were stranded
    in fast rising water.Two Engines 19 & 7
    responded,one truck from 7,Chesterfield
    Scuba Team from Station 14,and two ambulances
    from Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad."
    A car with three passengers headed down
    Spring Run encountered high water.The water
    suddenly began to rise and the car stalled
    out.Two of the three managed to get out,
    the third,a 23 yr old man was swept downstream.
    He grabbed a tree and hung on.Rescue workers
    zoomed into action.
    "The Scuba Team,wearing wet suits and
    flotation devices went to work," explained
    Bowman,"the Divers had ropes and throw bags."
    The rescue which could have easily been
    a fatality in the angry,rushing water,
    ended in safety.The incident took about
    an hour.
