Paramedic Certification Requirements

I have moved from kansas Where I have served as a Firefighter Under a EMT -Basic certification.

Very few Kansas Firefighters are Paramedic certified or are required to be.

I am wondering if the majority of Texas Fire departments require Paramedic certification? If so this is going to be a big decision whether I should devote my time and commit myself to obtaining paramedic status? Any suggestions for obtaining paramedic certification if the department will not train or pay for training? If the department provides ALS/EMS services iis that going to be a indicator whether I would need to be Paramedic certiified?

From what I've seen the majority of the fire departments do not require as they might send you to the course but if you already have it than that's extra points for you. But not all fire departments care about the paramedic cert. I'd do some research into the departments you are interested in and found out from people that have tested and/or working there.

Here in the Metroplex there are a good number of smaller depts. that are going "Medic Preferred."

Some of the bigger ones you can get on without being anything, they'll put you through their own class, Ft. Worth FD being one of them, and I think Dallas FD is the same way.
