  • Hmm... Wonder where this is headed?

    Associated Press

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A seven-person team of emergency response experts on Tuesday will begin investigating and evaluating the state's reaction to a nightclub fire that killed 100 people and injured nearly 200 others.

The team is led by Titan Corp., the same technology and defense company that prepared a report for Arlington County, Virginia, after the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon.

Grant Peterson, a vice president at Titan, said he expects the evaluation to last at least four months.

Peterson said the experts, including fire, police and emergency management officials, will come from across the country.

The federal government will pay Titan for its work, according to Jeff Neal, a spokesman for Gov. Don Carcieri. Peterson said the cost would depend on the length of the project and wouldn't estimate a dollar amount.

Peterson said his team will collect information from emergency personnel who responded to the Feb. 20 fire at The Station nightclub in West Warwick. The company will then make recommendations, based on information from the responders.
