  • NYS OFPC "Best Practices"

Just wondering if anyone from NY State has seen the "Best Practices" document published by OFPC. Love to hear your thoughts.

Our fire district is interested in establishing requirements to qualify for chief officers. This will be their main resource.

As with many fire departments, being elected chief is still mainly a popularity contest, even if the district ultimately appoints whoever gets selected by the FD.

The biggest drawback for the present is the availability (or lack thereof) of the required courses. For that reason, it'll be several years before they can really clamp down.

Trickle down will very likely occur once that gets established.
Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

Everyone goes home. Safety begins with you.
