  • Illinois OSFM FFII

I am trying to put together a Firefighter II class. I have instructors lined up, I have course approval, I even have the OSFM outlines and PowerPoints. What I don't have, can't find, and can't get from the Office, is a list of contact hours for each subject area of the three modules. I want to say I remember seeing a list of recommended hours for each topic. Or did they do away with this and simply say, take the time you need to cover the material?
    MIKEY? dm? Anyone?

Jay,last i knew, there were no set hrs, with the excepation of hazmat, it's 8hrs. the last ffII class we had was done in 20hrs per mod.,less practicals. That kinda sucked caus when i took it, it was 240hrs.

Thanks, Larry, that's what I thought. I remember it being 240 hours, also (1991), but when IFSI taught a class last fall next town over, they didn't have anywhere's near that many contact hours. It was more like 140. I'm told there was almost no lecture, though.

Right now, the syllabus I've got laid out puts us at 45 hours for Mod A, 24 hours for B and C, plus 8 for HazMat. And then fill in any extra practicals....

only 20 hrs./ mod? I might even get some guys to put that much time into it. Jay, when I taught/took the class, it was 240 hrs., too. Took us 2 years to finish, but we got 11 out of 13 certified. Not too bad considering I taught it and learned it at the same time.

Welcome to the Price is Right!

          Jay:
I have the Cliff Notes and a copy of the final test.
For the right price, you could be livin' large, my friend.
Still no golf date set. You're startin' to worry me.
My FFII was 240 hours also. That's when men were men and women were glad of it!

Jay, I'm in the majority with the rest of the guys. I received my FF 2 in 89 in the 240 hour format. Since the updates in the curriculum, I've used blocks of instruction instead of setting a time limit for each subject. I'd rather take my time, be thorough and make sure my students understood what I was talking about instead of restricting learning to a set time period.

            Did someone mention golf?

That's when men were men and women were glad of it?

Is that what you ment to say or was it " That's when men were men and sheep were scared."

WOW !!!!!!!!!! In Ohio you can take FFII in 2 ways .........one take the initial 36 hour class (that will sone be changed to 84 I think) then you can take the remaing session to accumulate 240 hours of training or take the basic class and go on to 240, now that is done @ the academy also I believe no matter what class you have to spen X amount of hours doing X amount of lecture and skills.......oh .....sorry .........no one really asked what we do in Ohio ........

                              Geez;
Why don't you just throw them in a big aquarium with piranhas and man-o-wars?
Then tie a chicken around their neck and let 'em play with the alligators.
Seriously; is that all you got?
                              That's a playground.
Why, when I was your age..........
