DeFuniak Springs gets new fire truck

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — The DeFuniak Springs Fire Department plans to use $112,500 it will receive from the federal government to buy a new rescue vehicle.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded the city the funds from its Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

DeFuniak Springs Fire Chief Brian Coley said the truck the department plans to buy will give the unit a quicker response capability. Plans are to stock a big pickup truck with equipment that will afford limited firefighting capacity and first responder lifesaving capability.

"It’s absolutely great," Coley said of the grant. "We’ve needed this for a while."
