I'm not getting into a debate on politics here. The discussion is about HIRING and OFD has to place an engine back in service and hire to staff it... It will just happen sooner if they receive a grant.
I agree...wasn't tryin to start a political discussion...just a statment...it is a clever play on words though..i'll give you that...lol...ok back to topic

      • So has anyone heard of any hiring at all, just for one for one? I thought the goal was 3-4 immediate hires, then a larger group depending on the SAFER. Anybody heard any new scuttlebutt?

        • No SAFER grant yet...

Also, what is going to happen with the 10 guys that already got "hired" (moving on in the process from last week) ? Will they be a part of this grant hiring, or will there be those ten and 24 more?

              Guess that's to be decided...
Probably will be after the holidays, it will be 34 positions total including the 10 already called.

                  • Anybody get, or know of anyone who got a phone call this past week? Any news?

                    • Where did you hear that OFD has already contacted the 24?

                      • So FireFuss you say "The group of us"... Does that mean you were called to start on Feb. 11? Trying to get a definite yes or no from someone who was actaully called to start on Feb 11. I know thats the rumor, but Im sceptical until I hear of a person that is definitely starting that date.

                        • I understand that's been the rumor of the original start date for the next class. Just trying to confirm if anyone on this message board has indeed got a call from OFD with a conditional offer. It seems that everyone is talking about Feb. 11 being the start date but no one(that I have heard of) has been contacted. If anyone on here has been contacted and offered a job starting on Feb. 11 please respond so those of us who are still in limbo can temporarily put our minds at ease and stop grabbing our phones everytime someone calls.

                          • Thanks. Like I said, just looking for definitive clarification. Good Luck man.

                            • A new class of more than 15 will begin their orientation (on February 11th). As soon as that group completes their orientation period, we will hire the remaining personnel to get us up to our full staffing of 521 and then resume hiring one-for-one over the next 2 years of the grant period.

                              Direct from the Chief.

The 2nd group has been contacted, congrats to everyone that has made it so far.

I'm waiting on a call back from the supply guy for gear and uniform fittings, and I've already scheduled my "downtown paperwork session" for this week.

Good luck to all you guys still waiting. So long as the city has the grant (2 years) they'll have to hire someone AS SOON AS a spot becomes available to maintain staffing. I'm sure there will be plenty of guys leaving in the next couple years to make room for you guys.

And for you lucky S.O.B.s that I talked to at the medical who this is their FIRST JOB outta school, don't worry. Like I posted above, I will teach you the magical art of toilet scrubectomies!
Nothing like green fresh outta school firemen. Let the fun begin!
