I heard there were about 60 or so who applied for part-time. There were many no-shows for the written test and as of today we do not have the test scores back from the vendor. The part-time process is to generate a six month eligibility list. Currently we are at about 35 part-timers, which is more than we usually carry.

We also are going to be building a full-time eligibility list. Many of the existing part-timers as well as some recently certified EMS employees are expected to apply. The number of replacement part-time positions will depend on how many of the existing part-timers are selected for full-time positions. Currently there are many qualified, existing full-time EMS or part-time firefighters competing for a limited number of full-time positions. There are several openings in the works, either due to retirements or other factors, but it will be quite some time before we see a mass hiring like we were doing a few years ago. I don’t have the exact numbers but I will try and get them soon. I’m off for the rest of the week, but I’ll see what I can do.
