Interesting. I didn't think that was legal anymore in this state. Are there any other departments that require residentiacy? I guess there taking the NO VOLUNTEERS thing seriously. Good luck, to those Hartford residents taking the test and the HFD.

I called the other day to inquire about the hiring. The HR person told me "I didn't sound like I lived in Hartford" I informed her that in fact I was a Hartford resident for almost two years and a job on the fire department wasn't going to make me move back. What a bunch of Bull****

Did the HR person give you a reason on why they only allow Hartford residents to apply for the position of firefighter?

I called a few months ago to ask what the requirements were for the upcoming test. The lady said the same thing to me, "You don't sound like you live in Hartford". She told me if you don't want to live here then you don't really want to work here. What is up with that?

Its BS!! Thats what it is. I did hear that they were going to have two list one a resident and the other non-resident, but it deosnt seem thats the way they are going.

If you want the job bad enough, you can get on. It will cost you a month or two rent, but well worth it. It can be done,

CTJAKE is right, to much whining about the residency, it is a very small investment for a 20+ year career.

I wouldnt feel right about lieing about living in Hartford, or making it look like I really was a resident. Not the way I would want to start my career. They are looking for a specific recruit and I dont fit the bill.

I agree with you "crankshaft." Hartford is looking for a specific recruit. I cannot imagine that in todays world cities are able to have requirements on where you need to live to fill out an application. There are laws set up for people with disabilities, those who are minorities, those who are a different sex. But there are no laws to protect someone who lives out of town? Best of luck to all those that are able to apply.
