I wonder how this will effect the new hiring list.

If he meets all the criteria, I don't see the issue. Employers need to be so careful when hiring staff.....

Fire Chief Jon Pose said he was unfamiliar with the matter.

"I have no knowledge of it. But I'm not involved in the hiring or firing process," Pose said.

The Fire Chief is not involved? Is this common in CT?
Remember, it IS as bad as you think and they ARE out to get you!

I think Pose's comment is a line of crap. He does the oral board, isn't that part of the process? I have wondered myself about the age thing with Bristol. Call me a bit disgruntaled if you will. But in 03 Bristol was the first town I tested for and I failed the oral. Was disapointed but whatever, first time, live and learn. Since then I have learned and have done well (86-95) on other orals. Bristol's testing this time around I got a 92 on the written and thought I did well on the oral, but recieved my letter stating I did not recive a passing score. I don't understand why and can't find anyone to tell me. I DO like to learn from my mistakes. I talked with a neighbor who came out #6 on this last round for Bristol and our answers were very similar but he's 10 years younger. The only reason I would think age is when you go for your oral they make you sign that waiver form putting your DOB on there. Maybe I'm off base and just didn't answer there questions correctly, I will never know. I guess Bristol's just not gonna be my town. Even though I live there.

Who knows what happened. I know that Bristol has hired a few 30 + year olds and not that long ago they hired a 40+ year old so I really dont think that Bristol has a problem with older canidates next to any other dept.

Who knows what he said at his 2nd interview, maybe he came off too cocky being a 22 year vet of a neighboring city. He might have been a know it all and set in his ways. who knows
Maybe his refferences didnt pan out. There could be a number of different reasons why Bristol didn't hire him.
And maybe it was because he was 50 I dunno

To me if you spent your last 22 years in one dept. with a dream job, why leave and have to start all over.
          Dont like the new cheif?
          Dont like doing medical calls?
Want to double dip and receive two pensions?

I hope it works out for everyone, and not hold up the new hiring list.

I hope that it doesn't slow the process down either.

From what I've heard there only 29 canidates on the new hiring list.
