  • OSHA training for Auxiliary members

    Morning friends.

Our dept auxiliary is just starting up after being dormant for years. They plan on helping with social/community activities in addition to providing support to fire depts on standby at our station and on scene (basically providing refreshments and food) if/when necessary. Our officers were wondering if any other depts require their auxiliary to take an OSHA course. To add some background info, I'm in New York State and our FFs are required to take a mandatory 8-hour OSHA training annually. Thx!!

We're doing our refresher in February.

It can't hurt for them to attend - it will help them understand what the firefighters are dealing with.

Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.

Everyone goes home. Safety begins with you.

Our County offers the 8-hour OSHA refresher a few times each year throughout out county. While I agree that it can't hurt to attend, not all of the OSHA topics (http://www.dhses.ny.gov/ofpc/trainin...-refresher.pdf) apply to our auxiliary, I don't know if I'd ask them to sit through the full training.
