In January, the Scottish Fire Service Fairness and Diversity Forum declared that the term "firefighter" was "too aggressive" thus deterring women from aspiring to the job, and reccommended that the titlebe changed to "firemaster". GIVE ME A BREAK!!

LOL that is rediculous! What do firefighters do again? That's right! Fight fires! I read the post to my mom (who is a firefighter) and she said she has no problem being called a firefighter, in fact she thinks it is neat. She did say though that if she wasn't gonna be called firefighter she'd prefer Fire Queen
as a title. Have fun.

"Oh, GAG," said the female firefighter....
This is what happens when the upper echelon start worrying so much about covering their own butts that they don't realize how much more difficult they make it for the people they're trying to "protect!" It makes getting along sooooo much more fun...do they think we'd go for the job in the first place if we couldn't take any heat?

Fire Master huh. Well that would really sound weird when a kid comes up to you and asks what you are and you proceed to them that you are a "FIRE MASTER". I think that would actually confuse them. Want to bet the kids still refer to them as Firefighters. I think someone had a brain fart on this one. If a women or anyone else is going to become a fire fighter do you think that there really going to care what the official title is. I think not. I think they should quite messing with things that they have no clue about and leave the fire service alone. Things generally run better that way.
Hey Kelly Tool if your mom wants the title of Fire Queen so be it. If they can change Firefighter to Fire Master why can't she be Fire Queen. *LOL* Gotta love some people in the political arena and there infinate wisdom.

I'm a female And I fight fires; therefore, Firefighter as a title is logical and correct. To be called a "Firemaster" is illogical. The title denotes sexism at its worst. Far from being politically correct; I fear the Diversity Forum is masking a hidden agenda under the guise of liberated thinking.

Shouldn't a female "firemaster" be called a "firemistress"?
This whole PC syndrome is ludicrous. I can remember a letter that someone once wrote to Firehouse stating that the rank structure of the fire department should be changed,
because it was "reminded him of the military, where he had a bad experience". In his perfect world, the ranks would be:
fire specialist for firefighter
fire foreman for Lieutenant
fire supervisor for Captain
assistant fire executives for battalion, deputy and assistant chiefs.
Chief fire executive for the head of he department.
I had a good laugh then, just as I'm having a good laugh now!
PC: probably cuckoo!
