  • Which shift is better?

We are conducting a survey of full time departments.

What department do you work for?
How many FF's in your Department?
Which shift deployment do you have:10/14 or 24's?
How many people in your group/shift?
Do you like your 10/14 or 24's?

We are trying to figure out which shift deployment to put into effect in our town, so any other information you can provide would be helpful.
    Thanks.
    K

We have about 96 line/FFR's,6 stations,25 on the line/shift,3 shifts. We work a 24/56 hour week(24on/48off).The 24 hour shift is the only way to go,our union would vote down 10/14,and probably lynch a guy for even talking a 10/14!!!!!!!Now a 24/72,we would give a few years pay raises for that. Our city would like us to go back to a 72 hr.week if they could.

My Dept has 69 in fire suppression, 3 platoons of 23, 20 man min. We work a 56 hr week, on,off,on,off,on,4 off. 5 years ago we switched from 2 platoon on,off,on,3 off, and most of the guys would give their right arm to go back to it.

144 guys total. Work 10/14's in a 42 hr week. Roughly 33 guys per shift. 4 shifts.
I like the schedule, but have never worked 24's.

              24/72's- 42 hour workweek

How many people in your group/shift?
              46 maximum...33 minimum. 4 group system

Do you like your 10/14 or 24's?
24's is better. Allows for more quality time at home or for your 2nd job.

Also Gunnyv, correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't going back to a 2 group system mean going back to a 72 hour workweek?? Why would guys give their right arm to work more hours?
