This an "unofficial" from me to you.
The Memphis Fire Department is accepting application for fire recruits for the first time in 7 years!!
Here is a link to the official job posting for the position of Fire Recruit. It details job requirements and has salary / benefit information. Applications are being accepted through Feb 2nd, 2007. All completed packets must be submitted in person.
Information up front - All applicants going through this process will be required to become a licensed paramedic within 3 years. This will require employees to be rotated through an ambulance-riding schedule. Employees will not be riding strictly fire apparatus.
If you aspire to become a paramedic, this offers an excellent opportunity to be paid a good salary and work for a large, urban fire department while you attend paramedic school on your days off. Training will be offered in house at no cost to employees except for minimal state license fees.
If you are already a paramedic, there is a seperate listing with higher starting salaries.
I will be happy to try and answer any questions, but I may not have all the answers - I just work there. If I don't know, I will try to find out or pass along further contact information.
